This is the progress on attempt number two! It seems to be going good. Still no physical changes since it was started. No mold either (yay!).

Today, I finally threw my first attempt at fermentation in the garbage. I kept it to see what it was going to do and if it would do something.. It was covered in heavy mold. Here's to hoping my second attempt is actually edible come Monday!

Checking in..

My salsa has been fermenting for a week now. The visual aspects of it have not changed. It has not bubbled, changed colors, or anything else.

I am going to try this fermentation recipe with a different kind of salsa my next time around. Instead of using the kind you buy at a grocery store, I am going to use some all-natural homemade salsa. My hopes with trying a different kind is that it looks more appealing than the first time.

Here is to round two and hoping that it does something!

Fermenting Cheater Salsa

For my Fermentation Project, I am going to make a little something called Crazy Simple Cheater Fermented Salsa. I chose to do salsa because it is one of my favorite things to eat, I could literally live off of it! I got this recipe off of the website Pickle Me Too, which I found to be a great starter place.

Here goes nothing!

I will need three simple ingredients for this recipe:
  • 1 Quart Fresh Salsa
  • 1/4 Cup Starter Culture (Whey or veggie culture)
  • 1-2 TSP Salt (Add to taste)
Dump all ingredients in a bowl and mix together.  Gently press into a mason jar, pushing the salsa under the liquid. Use a weight to keep the solids under the liquid. Cover and let set for about 5 days.

Here is the original recipe:
